Description
The Ecoproduct company was
founded in the summer of 1995. The company was established on the basis of an enterprise engaged in the harvesting of wild mushrooms and berries.
In this regard, the initial activity was aimed at harvesting and primary processing of forest food products. Raw materials were exported to Germany and Italy, some of the products were sold domestically.
With the collapse of the USSR, the state system of harvesting mushrooms and berries practically ceased to exist, so the company had to re-create its own procurement network.
With the help of company employees, specialists in mycologists and qualified food production technologists, equipment for the primary processing of mushrooms and berries was created, reception points were set up on the ground, equipment was brought in and staff was re-trained.
For several years, an extensive procurement network was created in 15 regions of Russia, which allowed even in lean years to collect and carry out primary processing of a significant amount of mushroom and berry raw materials.
During this period, salted and pickled mushrooms exported by the company often returned to Russia in the form of finished products from Germany, Poland and other countries.
Russian canned mushrooms of that time were represented only by the “old-mode” SKO can of 0.5-0.7 L, made in small workshops with outdated equipment that could not compete with beautiful imported jars with twist-off lids.
This situation was paradoxical for Russia, which was distinguished by deep historical traditions of the use of mushrooms. Given this situation, in 1996 the management of the company decided to expand its own production of canned mushrooms and berries. In Ivanteevka, Moscow Region, canning shops were built, imported and domestic equipment was brought in, technology was developed and the production process of first canned and then mushroom cans was established. Over the course of three years, Ecoproduct has become the undisputed leader in Russia in terms of volume, quality and assortment of mushroom canned foods, having significantly displaced imported products.
To increase production volumes and more specialization, in 2000 Ecoproduct bought the enterprise that had gone bankrupt by that time - the Vologda Forest Food Processing Plant. The company has been operating since the 1930s and produced canned berries and mushrooms and a large amount of cranberries in powdered sugar during the Soviet period. The plant underwent a complete modernization and launched the production of canned berries - preserves, jams and berries mashed with sugar. Demand for the plant’s products was constantly increasing, and therefore, in 2004 it was decided to invest in a third plant. It became the Melenkovsky cannery in the Vladimir region. This factory began to specialize in the production of mainly vegetable and partially mushroom canned goods, which are produced under the Melen brand.
Today the Ecoproduct company includes three factories producing mushroom, berry, canned vegetables and dried mushrooms, as well as several procurement organizations in the European part of Russia and Siberia.
